Portsmouth venues trial new Contactless Menu app
Restaurants, cafes, bars & pop-up venues across the city of Portsmouth are taking part in a trial of a new ‘Contactless Menu’ app which was developed locally to help hospitality businesses in Portsmouth and Southsea with contactless ordering and payment.
Contactless Menu is a new app which has been developed by local software developers based in Portsmouth. It enables customers to use a traffic light system to quickly see which venues have spaces or are busy, book a table, order from the menu and pay; all through their mobile phone.
The pilot is being offered to Portsmouth venues, as part of the new Portsmouth City Council ‘Go local’ project they are leading on to help high street businesses to operate safely and profitably and to help residents return confidently.
Claire Upstell, Manager for Marmion Foods, Catalan Barcelona, The Sunday Post, Pitigliano, said: “We’re really excited by having Contactless Menu, the traffic light system will help customers to check our availability too. It’s a great initiative for Portsmouth businesses and residents.”
David & Barrie from Chit Chats at Fratton Community Centre, said: “It’s a really good idea, we’ve found it easy to use and so have our customers.”
Up to 40 venues can participate in the pilot scheme which is free of charge. Venues are fully supported and provided with the handheld terminal needed. Those wanting to continue with the scheme after the pilot will get to keep the handheld terminal and simply pay a small commission on orders.
There are a limited number of places still available to Portsmouth venues. Please contact the team by emailing hello@contactlessmenu.co.uk for more information.
Cllr Steve Pitt, the council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Economic Development, said: “As part of our commitment to support the local economy in Portsmouth and Southsea, we are keen to work closely with businesses in some of our key areas to look at how they could do things differently and together for mutual benefit.
“Part of this involves looking at digital solutions – particularly to help our more vulnerable residents to continue to use their favourite local restaurants and shops. We hope this pilot scheme will support and enable restaurants in Portsmouth and other hospitality venues to operate more smoothly within the current guidelines and also help customers to feel more confident about eating and dining out safely.”
If you are a hospitality business in the city of Portsmouth please come forward to take part in this pilot scheme. There is no cost to you but many benefits – including your venue appearing on the app when people are searching for somewhere local in Portsmouth or Southsea to eat or drink.
The Go Local project is being funded from the Re-opening High Streets Safely Fund, which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
